Athina Kontonikolaki

MUSES: chapter 4

Athena Kontonikolaki is a ceramic artist whose practice explores the expressive tension between function and abstraction. Her work navigates the space where utilitarian forms meet sculptural presence, inviting a dialogue between the everyday and the poetic. Grounded in a hands-on approach, she works across hand-building, wheel-throwing, glaze development, and firing experimentation. Embracing the trial-and-error nature intrinsic to ceramics, Athena engages with form, surface, and concept through iterative play.

Athina wears the Gaia charm , a tribute to motherhood beyond birth or lactation. Honoring the nurturer, the protector, the one who gives unconditional love and devotion to another for life, Gaia is a symbol of strength, care, and enduring connection, celebrating the many forms motherhood can take.

Jewellery has this... this quintessential thing that a mother passes on to her daughter, and to her daughter, so there is something touching about it.
